If you’re looking for something to spice up your weekend, look no further than Wilmington’s Riverfront. The Delaware Taco Festival will kick off this Saturday, and to make your planning easier we’re answering five big questions to help you on your way to a guacamole and salsa filled day.
What is the Delaware Taco Festival?
The fourth annual festival puts over 20 of the state’s best taco-centric restaurants and vendors in one place for a day of top-notch food and drinks to benefit the Delaware-based national non-profit The Trauma Survivors Foundation. A wide variety of tacos and specialty items will be served at the festival, in addition to drink options, music, activities and more. Delaware vendors include Los Taquitos de Puebla, Ole Tapas Food Truck, Taqueria Atexcac and more.
The event is family-friendly, and will feature Lucha Libre wrestling, hot pepper and taco-eating contests, a VIP party tent, and a kids fun zone. Traditional rock and pop bands, authentic mariachi bands, dance troupe disc jockeys and other musical acts will be providing live entertainment throughout the day.
When and where is it?
The festival will be held on Saturday, Aug. 17, from 1-7 p.m. at the Tubman-Garrett Riverfront Park in Wilmington. The event opens at noon for VIP ticket holders.
Will there be food other than tacos?
If you’re looking for something sweet after your taco fix, there will be ice cream, cake, dessert and candy vendors at the event in addition to a churro bar.
All tacos and food items will work on a voucher system. Vouchers can be purchased at various ticket stations throughout the event and then exchanged at all participating vendors. All beverage sellers and sweets purveyors will accept cash, according to a news release.
The festival warns credit card machines will be limited, but there will be some ATMs on site.
Will there be tequila?
Of course. This year the event will feature a tequila expo area for light tastings and individual purchases, a margarita bar with traditional cocktails and traditional bars and beverage stations serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, according to a news release.
How much are tickets?
Tickets can be purchased through Eventbrite. General admission is priced at $14.99 while VIP is priced at $54.99. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit DelawareTacoFest.com.
