D.P. Dough Announces Fall Reopening

Newark residents are celebrating the return of D.P. Dough, a delivery calzone restaurant. After closing in 2014, the eatery has plans to reopen this fall at 257 S. Main St. in Newark.

Newark owner Matt Ricciardi is excited about the new partnership with UD alumni as well as former D.P. employee Alex Semen.

“One difference is we’re moving off Main Street, and now we’re in the Park ‘n Shop Plaza on South Main. It’s not nearly as congested as Main Street, so delivery drivers are able to get in and out and speed up delivery times,” says Ricciardi.

The “original calzone company,” D.P. Dough is known for its fresh and speedy deliveries even during the early morning hours.

Over 40 calzone options will be offered at the Newark location. Customers can choose from the classics, like a calzone stuffed with three types of cheese, or a calzone bursting with chicken, beef, steak or veggies. Hungry diners can also get creative and make their own. Other menu items include chicken wings, tater tots and bread sticks. The chicken cordon bleu calzone will be a specialty item on the menu at the Newark location, in honor of the University of Delaware’s mascot: the Fightin’ Blue Hens. Included in the calzone is breaded chicken, ham, American cheese and mozzarella.

Still waiting on the approval of floor plans, D.P. Dough hopes to open in late August at the beginning of the new school year.
