Drink Up, Milton

Share

After retiring, Rich and Debbie Sulkovsky searched the Delmarva Peninsula for the just the right spot to open a wine bar. They soon found what they were looking for—a 100-year-old space on Union Street in Milton. After renovating the former municipal building that was also once a bank, they opened Bacchus Wine Bar of Milton—named after the Roman god of wine—in October. Besides offering more than four dozen wines by the bottle and 19 by the glass, the cozy spot with a soaring 16-feet ceiling and nine-foot windows also serves local brews like Dogfish Head and 16 Mile, and specialty cocktails. “We were wine enthusiasts at best,” Debbie Sulkovsky says. “But we surrounded ourselves with consultants.” One of those was a cellar manager from the prestigious The Inn at Little Washington in Virginia, who put together the wine list. The couple also became certified wine merchants. The small menu at Bacchus features salads; charcuterie, cheese and fruit plates; flatbread pizzas made with Lavash cracker bread; crêpes; desserts and more. Sunday brunch is also available. The wine bar is conveniently located next to the Milton Theatre for an after-show sip.
