Enjoy New Raw-Food Bar in Hockessin

The world is your oyster at George & Sons’ Seafood Market.

You don’t need to be at the beach this summer to enjoy seafood that tastes as if it just jumped out of the water. A boatload of rockfish, shrimp, scallops, crabs, oysters and more is as close as George & Sons’ Seafood Market in tiny, landlocked Hockessin (1216 Old Lancaster Pike, 239-7204). While the store has been selling fish and shellfish in the area since 2009, it recently installed a nine-seat oyster bar, where diners can watch briny bivalves being shucked before their eyes. On a bright Saturday afternoon, the offerings ($2-$3.50 each) included Blue Points from Long Island, N.Y.; Kumamotos from California; and Bay Blondes from Massachusetts. Patrons can also enjoy the shucked oysters—and other offerings, from lobster rolls and Maryland crab soup to steamed shrimp and littleneck oysters—at scattered tables near the shop’s pristine, to-go seafood case. Beer and wine are available, too. We’re hooked.
