On Nov. 1, beginning at 11:30 a.m., Iron Hill Wilmington will tap Last Alarm IPA, a special beer brewed in collaboration with the Wilmington Fire Department. The restaurant will host a daylong fundraiser for the families of local firefighters who died battling a blaze on Sept. 24. Iron Hill will also be hosting one of its signature Give 20 events; 20 percent of the proceeds will be donated to WFD Local 1590.
Wilmington firefighters joined head brewer Justin Sproul at the brewpub on Oct. 13 to create this special beer, named in honor of the “last alarm” that sounded on Sept. 24, shortly before Lt. Christopher Leach, 41, a 14-year veteran of the Wilmington Fire Department, and Senior Firefighter Jerry Fickes, 51, a 13-year veteran, lost their lives.
The session IPA has a subtle malt profile with a burst of citrus, and passionfruit flavor and aroma from American hops. It will be served alongside Smoked Beef Brisket Chili with roasted tomato, cumin, red onion, jalapeño and optional “3-alarm sauce” to up the heat. There will also be Fire House Wings served with celery, carrot sticks, a spicy Szechuan chili sauce and a sweet plum-ginger sauce for dipping.
Proceeds from the beer and both dishes will be a part of the “Give 20” event all evening long, allowing all guests to support their community with a delicious tribute.
