Pizza Pazza Gets a New Name

Share

You knew it as Pizza Pazza. Now you can call it Bella Luna. New name, same great food—with an emphasis on food. If you thought this Little Italy mainstay was merely a pizza joint, you’ve missed out on a menu of beautifully executed classics such as chicken piccata and veal Marsala. Sautéed broccoli rabe with white beans is rich and filling. Seafood dishes abound. Best of all, the eggplant Parmigiana rivals any in the Old Country. The eggplant is sliced thin and barely dusted with flour, layered in a light marinara with a touch of homemade mozzarella. It is as different from the heavy, breaded glock we call eggplant Parmigiana as you will find in the United States. That said, if you’ve never tasted owner Alex Russo’s pizza, now is the time. Composed of a simple crust of flour, salt, yeast and water, a zesty sauce and, again that wonderful mozzarella, it is baked in less than two minutes in an 800-degree wood-fired oven to produce a perfect pizza. Russo perfected it 20 years ago while working in his hometown of Santa Maria di Castellabate. You can perfect eating it any time. 654-4400, www.bellalunade.com
