Brunch is one of Domonique Williams’ favorite meals. So when the Delaware State University hospitality-management grad saw a need in the state capital, he opened a café in June, focusing on the midday repast and more. “I like brunch, and I like Dover,” he says. “I didn’t want to leave.”
The Brunch n Lunch (25 Loockerman St., Dover, 678-8999), in a space formerly occupied by the Dover Newsstand, also takes the latter part of its name seriously through an assortment of sandwiches and burgers sourced from Dover purveyors like Tiffanee & Co. Bakery for its potato Kaiser rolls, Frankfurt Bakery & Deli for bread and Haass’ Family Butcher Shop for meat. The BnL burger with lettuce, tomato, American cheese and house rotisserie ham is a big favorite, says Williams, who is working on his MBA at DelState while manning the kitchen at Brunch n Lunch. (He’s worked at several restaurants over the years.)
Williams is also proud of the restaurant’s lemonade and sweet tea, made fresh every day. He is committed to bringing more people to Dover and plans to host events, painting parties and open mics at the restaurant. “I want to give downtown more things to do, give people things to do,” he says. “I want to reach out to the highway and pull people in.”
