Taco Reho Finds a Second Home in Middletown

Taco Reho recently joined Middletown's growing food scene, bringing California-inspired burritos to upstate diners.

Taco Reho opened a second brick-and-mortar location in Middletown last year. After settling into new digs and adapting to the tastes of local diners, this Rehoboth Beach favorite is sure to become a staple in Middletown’s growing restaurant scene.

A Recipe for Success

The Middletown expansion comes only a few years after chef and owner Billy Lucas opened his first brick-and-mortar location on Coastal Highway in Rehoboth. Less than a decade earlier in 2014, Taco Reho was one of the first food trucks to roll its way into coastal Delaware with Lucas at the helm.

This level of success isn’t driven by passion alone (although that’s likely the root of it). It is also thanks to the ability to adapt and an incredible product that keeps diners coming back for more. Lucas draws inspiration from the street food scene in L.A and San Francisco. He’s lived in both cities and was inspired to bring the food truck burrito back home to Delaware.

Now, Taco Reho serves up a fusion-style menu. Lucas serves tacos, burritos, burrito bowls and nachos alongside American favorites like hot dogs and French fries. This balance of flavors appeals to a wide range of diners, from a hip college-aged crowd to beach-goers to families with picky kids.

Nachos are piled high with toppings like salsa, pico, crema, black beans and pickled red onions. Add a protein like pork carnitas for an extra flavorful and satisfying bite.

“After being in Middletown for awhile, we knew we had to add the ground beef tacos,” explains the manager at the Middletown location. While it’s not a common protein in the San Francisco-style food truck burritos and tacos, it does cater to Middletown’s families with children. Additional menu items like chicken fajitas and ground beef tacos make finding an attractive option even easier for patrons. Taco Reho’s willingness to adapt is what makes the eatery such a natural fit in any community.

Tacos, Nachos, Hot Dogs and More

The Middletown menu is diverse and packed with flavor. It starts with tacos, burritos and burrito bowls. Tacos come on a house-made corn tortilla with their own proteins and complementary toppings. The popular Baja fish taco, for example, contains beer-battered cod, avocado, pico, crema, chipotle mayo, green cabbage, pickled red onions, radish and cilantro. The pork carnitas taco includes braised pork topped with pineapple pico and salsa roja.

Burritos and bowls start with a flour tortilla or a bed of rice, black beans and greens. Both are packed with shredded cheese, salsa, crema, pico, avocado, cilantro and your choice of protein or “flavor.” Similarly, nachos are packed with black beans, queso, salsas, crema, queso fresco, pickled red onions and cilantro. Diners can choose to upgrade by adding a protein like pork carnitas, beef shorty or grilled shrimp.

One popular protein option on burritos, bowls and tacos is the buffalo shrimp. The cooks place shredded cheese directly on the grill to melt together. They top it with hot sauce and shrimp before rolling it together.

The “buffalo shrimp” protein option is the perfect addition to a bowl at Taco Reho.

Looking for a change of pace? The hot dogs on Taco Reho’s menu are perfect! The “Danger Dog” starts with a bacon-wrapped hot dog. It’s topped with black beans, Monterey jack cheese, avocado, yellow mustard, chipotle mayo, pico, pickled red onions, queso fresco and cilantro. A queso dog and plain hot dog are also options.

A full bar complements the menu, complete with specialty margaritas, other creative cocktails and local craft beer. The soft drink selection consists of agua fresca and cane-sugar sodas. Add-ons and desserts include fries with queso and apple cinnamon churros.
