Bar
Critics, upstate: The scene is always lively at BBC Tavern and Grill, where happy hour prices on food and drink Mondays through Wednesdays keep regulars coming back, and where frequent guest bartender nights draw new friends by benefitting local nonprofits. Cheers. (4019 Kennett Pike, Greenville, 655-3785, bbctavernandgrill.com)

Crab House
Critics, downstate: The giant red crab over the front door of Old Mill Crab House announces that it is serious about fun—and serious about our favorite crustacean. Old Mill promises Maryland crabs—not North Carolina, not Gulf Coast crabs, but the best-tasting crabs on earth. Let the pickin’ and grinnin’ begin. (8829 Waller Road, Delmar, 846-9000, oldmillcrabhouse.com)

Creative Sandwiches
Critics, upstate: The salmon burger banh mi typifies the kind of fun food at Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant—familiar enough to be comfortable, cosmopolitan enough to keep your interest after many visits. The Santa Fe turkey burger with guacamole, tomato, bacon, pepper jack and ancho-honey mayonnaise has been a perennial favorite for longer than we can recall. (147 E. Main St., Newark, 266-9000; 620 Justison St., Wilmington, 472-2739; ironhillbrewery.com)

Tea Shop
Critics, upstate: When you’ve grown bored of the coffee shop, the new Levitea offers such elixirs as Japanese cherry blossom, green tea pomegranate, white peony and Gen Mai Cha— hot or cold—croissants, muffins and apple turnovers. With her more than 70 specialty teas, Levitea takes thinks seriously while still having fun. (228 W. Ninth St., Wilmington, 715-2463, leviteawilmington.com)

Critics, Downstate: Paula Kinsey’s Tea for Two is a perfectly Victorian paradise for traditionalists and for those who haven’t yet discovered their love of tradition. The menu offers some combination of tea, sandwiches and treats, including Kinsey’s own chicken salad, potato salad and coleslaw, and Amish-made scones. Devonshire cream for you, dear? (9224 N. State St., Dover, 678-2226, teafortwoteahouse.com)

Traditional Pizza
Critics, upstate: The crust is always crisp, the sauce is always loaded with basil at Little Vinnie’s Pizza & Pasta. You won’t find anything too exotic, just Neapolitan pizza done right. (1704 Faulkland Road, Wilmington, 633-6801, littlevinniespizza.com)
