A few months ago, Platinum Dining Group opened El Camino Mexican Kitchen in North Wilmington’s Concord Plaza. The eatery is the hospitality group’s first crack at Mexican food. But fans of the restaurant group are celebrating the opening of Taverna Rustic Italian Wilmington, which already has a loyal following at its downtown Newark location. The Wilmington eatery opened on June 4 and is located just a few steps away from El Camino.

The Wilmington location has all the menu staples, including coal-fired pizzas, fresh salads and nightly dinner specials (Sunday’s slow-roasted pork ragu is a must). On a recent visit, my fiancé and I shared the Taverna Antipasto, which is more like a create-your-own charcuterie. We also split the grilled artichokes, which are served with lemon and arugula. Even though we were both full, we decided to split the chicken Taverna, made with capers, lemon and white wine, served on a bed of linguini.
We ended our meal with an outstanding espresso martini and couldn’t say no to the tiramisu.
