Tea Tradition Alive and Well

Special Teas in Chadds Ford offers a spot of tea, and more.

Tea rooms come and tea rooms go, but Special Teas in Chadds Ford has won a loyal clientele that has kept it going for more than 15 years now. “I think it’s all about the personal attention from the sisters,” says manager Diane Naymer. Those sisters are owners Carole Bradley and Judith Finnigan, who have been known to call regulars personally to inform them of good times to visit. The staff offers traditional tea service in the morning and afternoon for individuals and small parties, all with fresh, house-made foods. Bradley preps sandwiches with her own egg salad, chicken salad and others. Finnigan does the baking, including her award-winning scones. The store also sells gift items, specialty foods and, of course, teas, such as the Downton Tea of black leaves, pomegranate and blueberry. “The most wonderful people come for tea,” says Finnigan. “It’s kind of like Cheers around here.” (610-358-2320, specialteastearoom.com)
