There’s An App for That

The Delaware Center for Horticulture wants to know if you’re hungry for a taste of adventure. If so, visit its beautiful and historic Trolley Square home (1810 N. Dupont St., Wilmington) on Thursday, Sept. 22 for “A Taste of Trolley Square: All About Apps.” Chefs from nine neighborhood restaurants—Catherine Rooney’s, Lime, Santa Fe, Temptations, Kelly’s Logan House, Fresh Thymes, Kid Shelleen’s, Piccolina Toscana and El Diablo—will prepare their A-game recipes. Year eight promises to be great for the annual Taste of Newark. While you wander under the tents sampling food from 45 city restaurants, watch local chefs slug it out in an “iron Chef”-Style contest to see who’s best. Dick Schmidt of the Blue Crab Grill, Jeovany Valle of Caffé Gelato, Erin Finnegan of Kildare’s Irish Pub, Bobby Love of Matilda’s (aka Mad Mac’s), Lupe Aguilar of Timothy’s and Raymond Williams of Newark Senior Center will be given the same ingredients, then do their best to create something spectacular. Harvest Festival

This is the time of year when oenophiles the world over rejoice. In this corner of the glode, celebrate the annual grape harvest Sept. 24-25. Visit any winery on the Brandywine Valley Wine Trail for special events such as picnicking, live music, grape stomping competitions, barbecues, hayrides and, of course, tastings and tours. Grapes Vs. Grains

When Peco’s Liquors on Philadlephia Pike celebrates it 75th anniversary, It will do so in style. Attend its Grape Vs. Grains evening at Harry’s Savoy Grill & Ballroom on Friday, Sept. 23, and you’ll get to weigh in on what’s better: wine or beer. Sample craft brews and premiere vinos, then decide.
