Editors’ note: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated the Newark location’s opening date as Thursday, June 7. As of June 7, a specific opening date has not yet been announced.
Viva Chicken, an authentic Peruvian rotisserie-chicken sensation, has announced that it will be opening its first location in Delaware. Known for its pollo a la brasa (herb-enhanced rotisserie chicken cooked in a charcoal-fired oven), the restaurant is opening soon in Newark’s Center Pointe Plaza shopping center.
Viva Chicken opened its first location in 2013 in Charlotte, North Carolina, and has since opened a number of locations throughout North Carolina, as well as one in St. George, Utah. Each restaurant has a charcoal rotisserie imported from Lima, Peru. The peppers in the fresh-made sauces, the purple corn in the Chicha Morada drink, and the cans of Inca Kola are all authentically sourced and prepared.
Menu highlights include:
- Rotisserie chicken (served as a quarter, half or whole) marinated for 24 hours with herbs and spices;
- quinoa-stuffed avocado;
- Andina Power Food salad featuring a kale-romaine mix, quinoa, seasonal fruit, edamame, toasted almonds, red peppers, avocado and a lime-passionfruit vinaigrette; and
- signature sides and juices, including solterito (Peruvian corn salad), canary beans, cilantro-infused rice, plantains, yuca or sweet potato fries, herbal limeade (lime, basil, rosemary and mint), Maracuya passionfruit juice and the Chicha Morada (Peruvian purple corn, cinnamon, cloves, pineapple, apple and limes).
Once open, Viva Chicken will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Dine-in guests can order at the counter and eat in the 92-seat dining room. The restaurant also has a full catering menu with pickup and delivery options.
