When Pasta and Pizza Cravings Strike, This Cozy Italian Eatery Hits the Spot

Authentic cuisine and fair prices make Café Sitaly a hidden gem.

Every now and then, a craving for Italian food strikes, and my boyfriend and I end up bickering about where to satisfy our hunger. Ever since Trolley Square’s Cantina di Napoli closed in 2016, we have been hard-pressed to find an Italian eatery like it. For years we had driven by Café Sitaly, located on Naamans Road, but never stopped in. When we finally decided to check it out last Friday evening, we were pleasantly surprised by the food, service and fair prices.

The restaurant only houses a handful of tables and booths, so we were lucky to snag the last available table without having to wait. My boyfriend ordered his usual, penne alla vodka, and I ordered the cavatelli with broccoli rabe. Both dishes came with a house salad to start (and the creamy Italian dressing was delicious). The pastas were fresh and al dente, and the portions generous.

We noticed the takeout counter was buzzing all evening—people were rushing in to grab pizzas to go every few minutes. We decided we had to try the pizza, too—and soon. So the next evening, after a long day of running errands, we ordered a Sicilian pizza with pepperoni. The crunchy, chewy crust was divine, and the sauce was nice and sweet. I ate three pieces (and I won’t say how many the boyfriend ate). Bottom line: It hit the spot.
