Just 30 minutes from Lewes, the Apple-Scrapple Festival in Bridgeville this weekend will showcase one of Sussex County’s favorite fruits. But it’s not the only place where you can find autumn’s signature flavor.
At Historic Lewes Farmers Market, held on Saturdays, and the Rehoboth Beach Farmers Market, held on Tuesdays, Fifer Orchards is selling apples grown in its Camden-Wyoming orchards. The family farm offers up to 25 varieties and brings six different kinds, along with cider and apple cider donuts. On Oct. 20, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Fifer will open the seasonal stand in Dewey Beach for a one-day-only fall sale.

Dogfish Head’s spirits line also includes Esprit Malade, a tart blend of apple brandy, raw apple cider and Dogfish Head’s Sick Cider. (The latter is an unfiltered, rustic cider made with Fuji, Roman, Stayman, Red Delicious and Golden Delicious apples from Fifer Orchards). The blend is sold at the Milton brewery and the Rehoboth brewpub. On Oct. 18, Dogfish Head and Dewey Beer Co. will collaborate on an apple-cider-donut beer, which will be released at Analog A Go Go Nov. 1-18.
