Most people can’t wait for the start of pumpkin-spiced latte season, but some are still holding on to summer for as long as possible. And even though it is already starting to feel a little bit like fall outside, National Chocolate Milkshake Day is the perfect way to say to summer, “I love you; please don’t go.”

Here are just a few spots at the Delaware beaches where you can indulge on Sept. 12 (but let’s be honest, this holiday should be observed whenever you deem necessary).

2 Dips Ice Cream

This kitschy ice cream shop is located just blocks from the beach. With over 50 flavors of hand-dipped Hershey’s ice cream on the menu, this family run shop just celebrated its 10-year anniversary.

209 E. Savannah Road, #1128, Lewes • 645-2347

The Frozen Farmer

The Frozen Farmer is based on Evans Farms and offers homemade ice cream, sorbet, fresh juices and more. There are plenty of traditional flavors on the menu but also a few funky ones, like blueberry strudel, peanut butter and jelly and pineapple. The ice cream is also available at select Redner’s Market locations plus two convenient locations in the Tanger Outlets in Rehoboth Beach. Visit their website for the full list of locations.

Maureen’s Ice Cream and Desserts

This sweet little shop in downtown Bethany sells a generous selection of bagels, gluten-free baked goods, smoothies and of course, ice cream. Upgrade your basic chocolate shake with double dunker, which is mocha ice cream with a cookie crust swirl and cookie dough.

Mug & Spoon

Looking for shake that will knock your socks off? Mug & Spoon will do the trick, and then some. The milkshakes are a work-of-art and tons of toppings, including brownies, a slice of pie and even cotton candy. The blackout shake is a chocolate lover’s dream, made with chocolate ice with Oreos, brownies and a fudge swirl and topped with mini M&Ms, a fudge brownie and a candy of your choice.

Vanderwende Farm Creamery

There are over 25 creamy flavors on this family-owned-and-operated, three generation business, but for a chocolate milkshake fix, we love the cappuccino crunch, which is coffee ice cream mingled with chocolate cake crunchies.
