Wildwich Food Truck Opens Second Brick and Mortar in Downtown Wilmington

The new location opened in February, and will hold a grand opening celebration April 1.

Many Delawareans know Wildwich for its food truck, which has been filling our bellies for almost five years with sloppy, scrumptious sandwiches. But that didn’t stop owner Mike Stanley from expanding his operation—about three years ago he opened Wildwich at 800 Delaware Ave., in downtown Wilmington.

The location is open Monday through Friday for breakfast and lunch. The property managers for the Renaissance Center, which is located at 405 N. King Street, was so impressed with Stanley’s success that they approached Stanley to see if he had any interest in opening another location in the building (previous restaurants at that location have closed, including Café 405 and Cocina Lolo). He says he was tentative, but felt that his fast-casual concept would be successful at the King Street location.

The new location opened in mid-February and is planning a grand opening celebration on Monday, April 1 at 8 a.m.

Stanley says with two brick and mortar locations that the food truck is going to take a small, half step back this summer. “We will still participate in the food truck Wednesday lunches in Rodney Square, in festivals and private functions,” says Stanley. “Next year [the truck] will either take a full step forward or I may convert it into a new type of food truck,” he says.

If you’ve never dined at Wildwich, then be prepared to open wide and grab a bunch of napkins. Stanley says that customer favorites include the Jolly Mon sandwich, made with spicy and sweet jerk chicken and fresh mango chutney, the K. C. Q., made with hickory smoked pulled pork Kansas City-style barbecue sauce and tangy slaw and the T-Rex, made with thinly sliced steak, horseradish spread, arugula and crispy onion strings.

“We make all of our mayonnaise from scratch,” says Stanley.
