Tynisha Lomax tends bar like an experienced professional, bantering affably with her customers while making various drinks in front of their watchful eyes. Only she isn’t your typical bartender. She’s a “tea tender” and the owner of Wilmington’s newest drink shop, Levitea (228 W. Ninth St., www.leviteawilmington.com). The beverages here have names like Japanese cherry blossom, green tea pomegranate, white peony and Gen Mai Cha, and are served hot or cold. If you’re overwhelmed by the choices, Lomax gently prods your flavor needs—“dark or light, floral or fruity?” she asks. She also offers croissants, muffins and apple turnovers with her more than 70 specialty teas. You can get your order to go, but the shop is an inviting place to linger with its cheery pistachio color scheme, comfy chairs, intimate tables and stools at the wood bar. It’s a lifelong dream for Lomax, a Tatnall School grad. “I always wanted my own business,” says the Wilmington resident. “At the end of the day, I’m having a good time.”
