Chef/owner Kevin Reading of Abbott’s Grill has partnered with Eric Williams, co-founder of Mispillion River Brewery, to open a new brewpub in Smyrna. “We felt the market is underserved there,” Reading says.
The eatery, to be called Brickworks Brewing and Eats, is expected to open in February or March. The name is a tribute to Smyrna’s past brick industry. The restaurant will be located at 230 S. Dupont Hwy. in the Commodore Commons shopping center.
When Reading saw the site, he envisioned brew tanks in one of the rooms and thought immediately of Mispillion. “We had collaborated on a beer together—Abbott’s IPA,” he says. “I invited them to do this.” Reading envisions a menu that adheres to Abbott’s cooking-from-scratch philosophy.
Look for dishes like beer, bacon and Beemster cheese soup, a pork Schnitzel sandwich, calamari with spicy brown butter, baked oysters and more. “It will be more than a restaurant,” Reading says. “It will be a destination spot.”
