10 Ways to Spend Your Labor Day Weekend at the Beach

Do some solid celebrating before saying goodbye to summer.

1. Chase the rainbow

The annual Sundance celebration at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center benefits CAMP Rehoboth. This year’s two-night event—titled Rainbow XXXI: In the Name of Love—honors Steve Elkins, co-founder and executive director of CAMP Rehoboth, who passed away earlier this year. The auction is on Sat., Sept. 1, beginning at 7 p.m. The Sundance dance party is on Sunday, Sept. 2, beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets are $80 for both events or $45 for one event, available at camprehoboth.com or by calling 227-5620.

6. See a show

You’ll have no problem finding music at the usual hotspots. However, there are also some special live performances this weekend.

On Saturday, Sept. 1, from 10 p.m. to midnight, performers from Clear Space Theatre Company’s summer repertory present The Final Bow, a cabaret that signals the lively last hurrah. Admission is free, but donations are welcome at the door.

7. Hunt for bargains

The pickleball courts at The Brush Factory on Kings in Lewes will be the stage for the fifth annual Attic Treasures Sale, held by the Greater Lewes Community Village from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1.

8. Sip new “suds”

Dogfish Head is releasing three beer releases at the Milton tasting room on Friday, Aug. 31 and Saturday, Sept. 1. The three beers are Bourbon Barrel-Aged 120 Minute IPA, 120 Minute IPA and Grisette About It! The last two were hand-bottled and numbered by Dogfish Head workers.

On Sept. 1, Revelation Craft Brewery will offer three canned selections: Razz Sour, made with raspberries; Mother-in-Law IPA, made with hops grown by the brew master’s mother-in-law; and the gluten-free Co-Conspirator Apricot Sour. The cans are available beginning at 9 a.m.

9. Send summer off with a bang

The Freeman Stage on Sunday, Sept. 2, will present the Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra followed by a fireworks display. This is a BYOC (Bring Your Own Chair) performance. The music starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10. Children 12 and under are admitted for free.

10. Bid adieu to summer at the Bethany Beach Jazz Funeral

The annual end of summer celebration returns on Sept. 3, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the north end of the Bethany Beach Boardwalk. The free event is hardly a solemn affair. Bring the kids, wear a costume and prepare to dance to the Dixie Cats, the Downtown Dixieland Band and the Jazz Funeral Irregulars.
