Brides- and grooms-to-be can see the latest in wedding fashions and get tips on planning their ceremony and reception at Delaware Today’s annual Upstate Bridal Show. The popular event will be held Sunday, Feb. 16, from noon to 3:30 p.m. at the Waterfall Banquet and Conference Center in Claymont.
The highlight of the afternoon will be a runway fashion show of exquisite bridal gowns and attire for bridesmaids, grooms and groomsmen, and mothers of the bride and groom presented by area bridal salons. In addition, exhibitors will include a full range of bridal vendors—from reception sites and caterers to florists and bakeries.
“Delaware Today’s bridal show gives brides-to-be the unique opportunity to interact with experts on all aspects of wedding planning, all in one place and in one productive afternoon,” says Monica Weber, Today Media’s marketing director.
Hot and cold hors d’oeuvres will be served and there will be a cash bar. During the cocktail period, the Philip Berger Trio will play jazz standards from Gershwin to Sinatra in the lobby, while music for the fashion show will be provided by Entertainment Factory.
Attendees will have the chance to win an array of door prizes provided by the exhibiting vendors.

Waterfall Banquet & Conference Center
The Waterfall Banquet & Conference Center in Claymont provides the elegant backdrop for this year’s Upstate Bridal Show on the afternoon of Feb. 16. The venue, a perennial favorite with area couples, includes two attractive ballrooms with dance floors and a large lobby area with a stone fireplace.
Waterfall’s Cascade Ballroom, which seats up to 250, features classic look and a large crystal chandelier. The Niagara, which seats up to 300, has a more modern vibe to it. Brides and grooms appreciate that either ballroom looks great with whatever decor they choose for their wedding.
One of the best-known features of Waterfall, and the one that gives the venue its name, is the large, outdoor stone waterfall at the center’s entrance, which provides a beautiful setting for bridal photos.
“We are thrilled to be welcoming area couples and their families and friends to Waterfall for Delaware Today’s Upstate Bridal Show. We know that they will find the afternoon to be fun, relaxing and informative,” says Waterfall’s Lucy Scotto.

Wedding Planning Tips from the Experts
Gift Registry
Register for lasting gifts that are an investment, such as a good set of cookware and china. These might be difficult to afford on your own later. Plus, the gifts will always be a reminder of your special day.
The rule of thumb is to take the number of shower/wedding guests and multiply by 2.5 to ensure that your guests—even the late shoppers—will feel like they have options to choose from.
Select items for your registry at price points that guests will feel comfortable with. For wedding showers, guests typically spend about $50. For the wedding gift, they will spend $100, $150 or more, so gifts that cost multiples of $50 are good to have.
Don’t be afraid to put high-priced items on the registry. Some people like to pool their resources and buy a large gift from a group. — Beth Anne Ages, bridal director at Boscov’s
Shopping for a Wedding Gown
It’s never too early to start looking for your bridal gown. It can take up to eight months for a gown to arrive once you order it.
Don’t bring too many people on your gown-shopping trips. After three opinions, it just gets confusing because everyone likes different dresses.
Don’t get too stressed. Just relax and enjoy the experience. It’s supposed to be fun. —Colleen Wilson, co-owner and bridal manager at Claire’s Fashions
Reception Planning
Have a good idea of what kind of reception, theme and budget you want before you start gathering prices from potential venues. Armed with that information, the venue will be able to customize a package to your price point and taste right from the beginning.
When selecting appetizers and main courses for the reception, choose food items that will appeal to a broad range of people. Stay away from exotic items and foods you have never tried before.
If the venue offers the option, do a tasting of the foods you select so that you will know exactly what your guests will be served. —Bryan Treude, director of sales and marketing, Embassy Suites Newark
