When eight top local chefs get together to cook for a cause, you know it must be a special one. Case in point: the Chefs Unite to Save Mickey and Cure Sanfiippo II Dinner, which will be held on Monday, March 12, at Deerfield Golf Club.
The event supports the Team Sanfilippo Foundation’s efforts to find a cure for all children afflicted with Sanfiippo syndrome, a rare and fatal genetic disorder often referred to as “childhood Alzheimer’s.” Delawarean Mickey Merrill (right) was diagnosed with the disease last summer.
In addition to a special meal from some of the area’s best chefs, guests will also be treated to the first public screening of “The Weight of a Mountain,” a short documentary about Sanfilippo syndrome. There will also be a silent auction featuring memorabilia, trips and more.
Participants include Jason Barrowcliff of Brandywine Prime, Patrick Bradley of Tonic Bar and Grille, Joe Johnson of Krazy Kats, Dave Lattomus of St. Georges Technical High School, Chris Peters of The Back Burner, Leah Suzanne Steinberger of the Hotel Du Pont, Andrew Thorne of Home Grown Café and Don’ta Whitley of Skipjack Dining.
Tickets—which include dinner and dessert, an open bar, gratuity and parking—are $155.50 per person. They are available via TicketSpice or www.savemickey.com/events.
