We were all disappointed for Applebrook’s Dave McNabb when he failed to qualify for the U.S. Open last year. All the signs pointed in his favor: The qualifier was on his home course, Applebrook in Malvern, where he’s the head pro; the Open was being held at nearby Merion; and he was playing some of the best golf in his competitive life. So how did he deal with the sting? He dusted himself off and qualified two months later to play in the 2013 PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, N.Y., this past August. His 1-under-71 at Oregon’s Crosswater Golf Club punched his ticket to his first major. After two rounds at the PGA Championship, McNabb’s weekend ended prematurely with him missing the cut. But look for him this summer as he attempts to qualify for a trip to the U.S. Open at Pinehurst in June.
Agony and Ecstasy of a Golf Pro
Applebrookâs Dave McNabb takes another swing at the big time.
