Arts Leaders Tell • Where They Like To Go

Patti Grimes
executive director, Joshua M. Freeman Foundation
“At Clear Space Theatre in Rehoboth Beach, I love the range of performances, from musicals to revues to classic plays. I also enjoy seeing local actors.  Sussex has some of the most talented artists in the region. Over 75 are members of Delaware by Hand, and many of our towns have galleries representing them. At the Clayton Theatre in Dagsboro, my family enjoys movies at Delaware’s last first-run single-screen theater. “

Nikki Lavoie
board member, Smyrna Opera House
“In central Delaware, arts venues anchor our communities. In Milford, I often shop before walking to the Riverfront Theatre for a show. In our small-town capital, turn off Pandora and step into the Johnson Victrola Museum. The children’s programs at the Biggs Museum of American Art delight my 4-year-old. Of course, I really love the art galleries, open mic night and theater in my own hometown.”

David Stradley
executive director, Delaware Shakepeare Festival
“I think the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts is one of the coolest places in Wilmington—my wife and I had our wedding reception there—and they always have interesting exhibitions. As the leader of a classical theater company, I love seeing the classics produced by The Resident Ensemble Players. The Everett in Middletown is a great example of how an arts venue can anchor a downtown.”
