Want to spend your Saturday sampling high-quality barbecue from vendors across four states? Then be sure to head to Historic New Castle on Saturday, June 10, for the second annual Colonial BBQ Competition, a celebration of Delaware’s 241st year of independence.
Festivities actually begin on Friday, June 9, with the kick-off Separation Day and a Craft Beer Festival and wing competition. On Saturday, gates open at noon (but the parade down Delaware Street begins at 11 a.m.). Tickets are $10 per person. The barbecue competitors will have been cooking since late Friday evening, and will be submitting their finished products for judging to the Kansas City BBQ Society judges from noon until 1:30 p.m.
Fill your belly with barbecue, pick your favorites and then see who receives top honors during the 4:30 p.m. award ceremony. Separation Day will conclude at 9 p.m. with a fireworks display.
