Bill Post and his wife, Deborah, have lived in the stately Governor’s Bed and Breakfast for 38 years. After raising their family there, they opened it as a B&B in 2000 with three rooms for guests.
“Our signature is privacy,” Post says, “and it’s small, non-commercial and quiet.” Just 15 minutes from the beach, shopping and other activities, The Governor’s B&B is also near Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge, a popular spot to visit.
The house was originally owned by John Hazzard and inhabited by his son, Delaware Gov. David Hazzard, in the late 1700s and early 1800s. The house’s vintage charm actually draws many guests interested in antiques and old houses.
Post and his wife provide a full sit-down breakfast for their guests, and are willing to accommodate any dietary needs or restrictions.
In order to run a successful bed-and-breakfast, “you have to like people,” Post says, “which we do.” They especially enjoy the conversation the guests bring to the breakfast table. “We’ve met some great people,” Post says.
