Outdoor Fun

Where to paddle, bike, kayak, golf, and run this fall in Delaware.

If You Kayak

Quest Kayak in Lewes in fall suggests tours spotlighting the salt marshes and rivers rather than the ocean. Owner Matt Carter recommends the Pints & Paddles up the Broadkill to Milton for a tour of the Dogfish Head Brewery. 745-2925, questfitnesskayak.com

• Catch a glimpse of migrating birds and turning leaves on one of Coastal Kayak’s eco-tours (Coastal Kayak is located near Fenwick Island). Owner “Mitch” Mitchell recommends the Bald Cypress Tour, which takes kayakers through a tunnel of tree leaves, and the Burton’s Island Wildlife Tour. 539-7999, coastalkayak.com

If You Golf

• Open to the public, The Rookery has two courses for 36 holes of golf. The South Course is 9 miles north of Rehoboth Beach. 684-3000, rookerygolf.com

Baywood Greens, also public, is in Long Neck. baywoodgreens.com, 947-9800

If You Stand Up Paddle

• Explore the Assawoman Wildlife Refuge. “The foliage back there is beautiful,” says Janis Markopoulos, co-owner of DelMarVa Board Sport Adventures in Fenwick Island. “And the bird activity is off the chart.” Rent a board for a solo paddle or register for a guided tour. 537-6500, delmarvaboardsports.com

Delaware Paddlesports in Lewes continues its Tuesday night “social” paddles, beginning at 6:30 p.m. and full moon paddles into fall. You can rent or bring a kayak instead of a stand up paddleboard. 645-7300, delawarepaddlesports.com

If You Bike

• Admire autumnal foliage along the Junction and Breakwater Trail, which runs from Lewes to just above Rehoboth Beach. Take it further by cruising into Cape Henlopen State Park. To stay on track, rent a bike at Bike to Go in Rehoboth Beach, which offers computer-guided cues and a speedometer, so you know when to turn. There are about seven different computer-led rides, says ride counselor John Deming. The shop stays open on weekends into winter. 227-7600, biketogo.com
