Downtown Bethany is filled with all the charm of any small beach community, but the quiet, serene town has been enjoying a boost to its dining scene. The longstanding Grotto Pizza on Garfield Parkway has been replaced with Zoca Modern Mexican Cuisine, a, funky Tex-Mex restaurant with some of the best views of downtown.
Danio Somoza is the chef/owner of the place, which opened last month (he is also the executive chef at Harvest Tide Steakhouse in Lewes).
The menu is great for grazing—there are three different dips (salsa, queso and guacamole) that are bright and flavorful. The tacos—more like tostadas—come three to an order on handmade corn tortillas.

The real stars of the restaurant are the creative cocktails. Even the house margarita, which is made with Piedra Azul tequila, Cointreau, fresh-squeezed lime juice, orange juice and agave, is above and beyond any house margarita you have sipped in your lifetime. The drinks are served with a salt and sugar rim, another small twist on the traditional.
The menu boasts a healthy array of tequilas; however, they were out of the Clase Azul Reposado much to the dismay of one of my dining companions.
The restaurant offers a happy hour menu every day from 2-6 p.m.—ole!
