What to Do at the Beach This Fall

The off-season is loaded with events for everyone.

 

SEPTEMBER

Sept. 8 • 40th Annual Sandcastle & Sculpture Contest  On the beach between Brooklyn Avenue and Hickman Street. Judging is at 3 p.m.  227-6446

Sept. 15  Lewes Artists Studio Tour  From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., artists and artisans once again open their private studios to the public. Admission is free. Maps are on the website.

Sept. 28-30 • Dewey’s Golden Jubilee • The fluffy breed descends on Dewey to chase balls and swim in the surf.

Sept. 29 • Southern Delaware Wine, Food & Music Festival • Sip wines from around the world paired with local restaurants’ cuisine. The event also features live music and a culinary throwdown between chefs from noon to 4 p.m. There is a separate Tuscan dinner at the Clubhouse at Baywood on Friday, Sept. 28 with winemaker Count Manfredo di San Bonifacio and a pre-event wine tasting. OCTOBER

Oct. 4-7  Greyhounds Reach the Beach • A weekend of events in Dewey and Rehoboth to celebrate greyhounds, encourage fostering and adoption, and raise funds to support greyhound adoption.

Oct. 5-7 • 42nd Annual Fall Sidewalk Sale • Shop in Rehoboth and Dewey from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day. (Store hours may vary.)

Oct. 10-14 • True Blue Jazz Festival • This is the sixth year for the festival, whose headliners this year include Bobby Sanabria and Wycliffe Gordon. Events will take place in venues in Lewes and Rehoboth Beach.

Oct. 11-14 • Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival • Nearly a dozen venues in the Rehoboth Beach area are involved in this year’s festival, which will star Matt Marshak, Brian Culbertson, Nick Colionne and a bevy of nationally and internationally known musicians.

Oct. 26-28 • Sea Witch Halloween & Fiddlers’ Festival • The event includes trick-or-treating, bonfires, a Sea Witch “hunt” and, of course, the parade.  Rehoboth Beach and Dewey Beach, 227-6446

 

NOVEMBER

Nov. 1-11 • Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival • View a wide variety of American and international features, documentaries and short films at three Lewes venues. • 645-9095
