While the dining scene in downtown Wilmington has seen a surge lately, there are still a few areas that have been lacking, including places to purchase groceries and beer and wine. But if you haven’t walked down Ninth Street recently, you may have missed the opening of Faire Market & Café, a neighborhood grocery store that sells plenty of local products, (think Wilmington Pickling Co. pickles and coffee from Little Goat Coffee Roasting Co.) plus plenty of made-to-order options. The business is run by Rob Snowberger and Dan Sheridan who also own Stich House Brewery.

Beyond the glass wall within the market is Girard Craft & Cork, which opened in April. The sleek beer and wine shop is currently the only storefront on Girard Street and offers free tastings every Friday (mainly wine but there has been a beer and even a vodka tasting in the past). The shop—which is owned by Robert Herrara, who also owns The Mill—offers a bulk discount (5 percent off) to those who purchase at least 6 bottles.
There is also a wine club where members receive between four and eight bottles of wine once a month, which are hand-selected by the staff. Members also receive a discount card on store purchases (10 percent off wine and 5 percent off beer/liquor) and priority access to limited-edition wines.
