The chic Delaware boutique boasts the latest trends, with a touch of boho style and an array of summer coastal fashions.

Kaitlin Weaver always dreamed of opening her own boutique one day—and she kept a running list of coveted products and brands that it would carry. In September 2018, the style-savvy Weaver opened Bungalow on 2nd, offering shoppers in Lewes her curation of everything from apparel and accessories to beauty and home décor. She seeks out unique items at trade shows (or online in the COVID-19 era), including those from other small businesses owned mostly by women. Here, she talks coastal style.

Describe Bungalow’s style.

I was reading back through the Best of Delaware from [2020], and we were described as “the sweet spot between bohemian and feminine.” I think that captures us perfectly.

What will customers find this summer in the way of coastal style?

In terms of clothing, it’s exciting. We’ve been able to bring back dresses for occasions. So, anything from a daytime wedding to a night out. Some of our favorite trends are puff sleeves, button detailing, floral prints and textured fabrics. In accessories, we [love] our rattan handbags and printed bandanas. In home décor, gifts and fragrances, [find a big collection of] botanical prints and items for being outdoors—vases, garden kits, shears, candles. Some items for summer entertaining are cookbooks and cocktail kits.

How did the pandemic change how you ran your business?

It’s been about adaptability. One thing that’s come [from COVID-19] is our website, where customers can now [also] buy online. And it has changed how we buy for the shop. So, thinking about how our customers are living went from going out to being at home on Zoom meetings, which, especially in terms of clothes, changed what we carried.

What does it mean to be recognized in Best of Delaware?

It’s a huge honor. It’s always nice to be recognized for the hard work that you put into the business, especially after the year that we’ve had. So that means a lot. And it’s also nice to know that others appreciate the shop and share that vision. And just the opportunity for more people to learn about our store.
