Calling All Vegetarians: This Black Bean Burger Will Also Surprise Carnivores

Our friends at the Drip Café have generously shared with us their Black Bean Burger recipe. They like to serve this with garlic aioli, fresh spinach, avocado, and tomato on toasted ciabatta.

Black Bean Burgers

1 ½ tbsp olive oil
1 ½ cups finely chopped red onion
6 cloves garlic
2 carrots, shredded
3 tsp cumin
1 ½ coriander
3 cans black beans, rinsed and drained
3 tbsp dijon
3 tbsp soy sauce
3 tbsp ketchup
1 ½ cups rolled oats

Sauté onions and garlic until soft. Add carrots and spices. Sweat on low heat. Allow to cool. (Be sure to cook these in a fry pan and not on the grill.)

Mash beans until broken up not puréed.  Add mustard, soy ketchup and veggies and mix to combine. Stir in oats.

Form into 9 – 6 oz. burgers. Freeze on sheet tray. When fully frozen, pull out and cook.
