Ain’t Life a Beach

On page 71 in the October 2011 issue there is a picture of Lewes taken near the Cannonball House. The picture is accompanied by a short article titled “Lewes, 1930s.” I am always intrigued with historical pictures of coastal Delaware and pay close attention to details in the photos. Across the canal, on the right side of the photo, there is a white car with a darker top. This is a 1949-’52 Chevrolet or Pontiac Coupe, so I doubt this is a picture of Lewes in the ’30s. I enjoy the magazine, especially the historical photos and articles.

Yupper, that’s Lewes all right but not in the 1930s! Your photo of the canal in Lewes was not taken in the 1930s as titled. Look closely across the canal and you can see a 1951 or ’52 two-tone Chevy Coupe parked next to the telephone pole. Further investigation will show television antennas on many of the houses on the beach. Somebody needs to do their homework, either you or the Historical Society.

What About Bob?

As a native Delawarean (70 years old), I want you to know how much I enjoy your magazine. I especially have enjoyed articles by Bob Yearick. I first found him in his “grammar” articles in the Out & About publication. He is certainly a real treat and I hope you continue to print his stories. I especially loved “Up in Smoke” (Bob’s Final Word in the July issue). Keep them coming.

In a letter published in your August issue, Kristen W. was highly critical of Grotto Pizza. She wrote that she encountered “poor service and poor quality food” during a winter visit. Obviously, this reaction deeply concerned us, and we investigated it by researching her original customer survey and contacted Kristen to assure her we take these complaints seriously. We do read every customer survey.

As it turns out, similar customer comments from around the same time as Kristin’s had led to specific action. We made a management change at that location and certain other issues identified in her online survey have been specifically addressed.

Thank you, Kristen. We invite all our customers to comment on their Grotto experience—positive or negative. We do listen.
