This Friday, April 18, plenty of Delawareans will tune in to watch the founder of an iconic Delaware business check a major item off his bucket list when he throws the first pitch at Boston’s Fenway Park.
For Sam Calagione, it’s a full-circle moment. The Dogfish Head founder grew up in Massachusetts before meeting his wife Mariah (a Delaware native), and relocating to the First State. The invitation to throw a ceremonial first pitch is more than just a nod from the big leagues. It’s also the realization of a childhood dream. To make the moment even sweeter, Calagione’s dad will be in the stands watching, just as he was during Calagione’s early days as a Little League player and baseball fan.
Friday is also Fenway Park’s Grateful Dead Night, which celebrates the iconic band’s 60th anniversary and supports its charity, the Rex Foundation. Calagione—a lifelong Dead Head—also celebrated the band’s impressive benchmark this year with the release of Dogfish Head x Grateful Dead Juicy Pale Ale. The beer has become the fastest-growing Dogfish Head beer since the 60 Minute IPA debuted nearly 25 years ago. The crisp and refreshing new beer, brewed with Kernza® perennial grains, granola, and heaps of good karma, is available on draft or in six-packs at Dogfish Head’s Rehoboth and Milton locations.
Tune in this Friday at 7 p.m. to watch Calagione throw out the ceremonial first pitch before the Boston Red Sox take on the Chicago White Sox.
