The scoop: This intimate15-room fieldstone inn has been greeting guests since 1728—and like the town of Middleburg, it epitomize cozy. In the heart ofVirginia’s wine and hunt country at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, both are beautiful any time of year, but they’re especially picturesque inwinter. A young George Washingtonvisited the tavern, and the building was a Confederate headquarters and hospital during the Civil War. JacquelineKennedy Onassis was a frequent guest at The Red Fox during fall foxhunting season, and Elizabeth Taylor often dined there.
Amenities: A full order-off-the-menu breakfast is included with an overnight stay. For lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch, the on-site tavern is a localfavorite. The Night Fox Pub is the perfect place to relax over a beer or cocktail.
