6 Fun Things to Do This Week: June 12–17

1. SHAKE YOUR BOOT

Through Sunday, June 17

This year, St. Anthony’s Italian Festival celebrates the largely undiscovered region of Italy called Puglia. On a world map, the area is found at the heel of the iconic boot. The long-running festival, which kicked off last weekend, continues through Sunday. Along with the customary food, wines and carnival rides, a highlight this year is a week of classical concerts—titled “Concerti sul Sagrato”—at the Fountain Plaza.

2. MUSIC LIT

Thursday, June 14–Sunday, June 17

The Firefly Music Festival is back with more than 100 bands playing nine stages over four days. Headliners include Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Arctic Monkeys and The Killers. What else can we say? This could get crazy.

3. CELEBRATE YOUR HERITAGE

Saturday, June 16

The Ethnic Cultural Heritage Festival is about as diverse as a festival can be. The free event offers the opportunity to celebrate various cultures through food, food demos, dance, the arts and displays. Delaware Poet Laureates, the Twin Poets, will perform and the Hindu Temple and Kalananda Dance School will hold dance demonstrations. There will also Mexican native dancing, a Greek food demo, Guatemalan, Kurdish, Iranian and East Indian displays. Plus, kids will enjoy fun with chopsticks, bracelet-making, Japanese origami, costumes, children’s book authors and more.

4. CAN YOU DIG IT?

Saturday, June 16

The 28th rendition of the popular Lewes Garden Tour offers an up-close-and-personal look at eight private gardens. Festivities will include a Garden Market with more than 30 vendors, Cape Artists brushing up on their garden painting and lunch in Zwaanendael Park courtesy of Full Belly Bistro. We give this event a (green) thumbs up.

5. IN PLANE SIGHT

Saturday, June 16

The Air Mobility Command Museum at Dover Air Force Base may be the coolest museum in the First State. And that’s saying something. Open Cockpit Day is a great way to experience this somewhat hidden gem. Tour guides stationed at many of the museum’s aircraft will describe the history of the planes and their missions.

This event, held every third Saturday of the month through November, is the perfect way to celebrate Father’s Day a little early.
