Hagley Bike and Hike

Although I can no longer run, I’m always eager to find new and interesting walking trails. While Delaware has many to offer, I love finding the trails that are located in the “Who Knew?” part of the map.

Have you ever visited the 235-acre creek side landscape of the Hagley Museum and Library? It’s not only beautiful, it’s a place where you can do a three-mile shaded walk, hike or bike ride.

Hagley’s Summer Bike and Hike Program is offered every Wednesday of July and August from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.  While members can stroll for free, the price for visitors is only $2.

This is such a deal—by getting out and about you get the benefits of exercise and you get to see more of the Hagley property than you would on the shuttle bus as a museum visitor.

If there is one thing I have learned writing for “Get Healthy, Delaware!” it’s that there are always ways to fit in fitness—even at a museum.

“Hagley’s been committed to fitness in the past,” says Jeff Durst, education coordinator. “We’re part of the national Let’s Move initiative and have offered other opportunities to get outside and moving, like with our Naturefest tree climbing activities and last year’s Water Balloon Olympics.”

Hagley’s Summer Bike and Hike Program will be offering family activities such as scavenger hunts to keep Delawareans outside and moving.  I for one will be there—I will be the one walking slowly but happily shouting out, “Who knew?”
