Firebirds Wood Fired Grill in Newark, Delaware

You may think of Firebirds Wood Fired Grill as a great place to enjoy beef, but now that we’re well into spring, it’s offering a menu of lighter specials that are perfect for the season: mahi mahi tacos for lunch, an appetizer of fried blue crab claws, and fettuccine with sautéed shrimp and scallops with bits of chorizo and tomato tossed in a light Chardonnay cream. There is more to it than seafood, though even the beef of the filet Oscar comes topped with crab meat. Thick pork chops get a honey-chili glaze, and a grilled turkey burger is topped with pepper jack cheese and avocado pico de gallo. Finish your meal with strawberry shortcake. (What says spring better than fresh strawberries?) Look for the new specials to appear before Mother’s Day. Dads, never fear: You’ll still find the usual grilled filets, strip steaks and ribeyes, as well as plenty of salmon and potatoes. Visit Newark or just over the line in Chadds Ford.
