East meets West at The Fox Beauty & Spa in North Wilmington, where friends and business partners Yogini Patel and Mary Adams provide services from head to toe, including such diverse offerings as group henna and customized highlights.
“Yogi is Indian and I’m American, and we combined our two flavors,” says Adams, who has 20 years of experience in the beauty business.
The Fox—so named for Adams’ red hair and the abundance of crafty vulpine creatures in the area—is a full-service boutique, with six chairs, two spa rooms, a color room and a shampoo area. In addition to cuts, coloring and hair treatments, the staff of licensed aestheticians provides waxing, professional makeup, lash lifts and tints, threading and facials.

Based on feedback from patrons, Adams and Patel developed a menu that emphasizes meticulous service that meets each guest’s specific needs. One feature is the Fox signature facial, a 60-minute, $75 treatment customized to address an individual’s skin type and concern. “It’s not your basic facial,” Adams notes. “It’s a one-of-a-kind experience.”
Making beauty accessible was a priority for the partners when they opened their business earlier this year. A partial highlight package, priced at $150, is personalized for each client.
“We wanted to offer a luxury service in a luxurious setting at an affordable price,” Adams says.
The Fox is poised as a special event destination, providing bridal hair and makeup, including specialized services for Indian bridal parties. Adams and Patel also are partnering with local mompreneurs to sell handcrafted goods in the salon, ranging from jewelry to hair oils. They view the strategy as a win-win-win, benefiting the salon, its patrons and microbusinesses.
