Freakin’ Fresh Adds More Products to Its Line of Preservative-Free Salsas

Hockessin-based Freakin’ Fresh expands its line of salsas.

From 100 containers sold to friends for the Super Bowl to a stand at Boothwyn Farmers Market to distribution to 45 stores on the East Coast, homegrown Freakin’ Fresh salsa is bigger than ever, but just as fresh. And the line has expanded, from the original hot and mild versions of basic salsa to seven other flavors, including Chipotle and Pineapple-Mango. “As far as I know, we’re the only salsa company that makes a low-salt version,” says Freakin’ Fresh vice president Mike Andrezejewski. The Hockessin-based company launched officially in 2009, after 20 years of salsa-making in the Andrezejewski family home. “I just always liked the flavor of it, but the stuff at the store was always too pasty or too salty or too vinegary,” Andrezejewski says, “so I started making my own.” Now his crew is cranking out 1,500 to 2,000 containers every Monday and Tuesday for delivery to the stores on Wednesday and Thursday. There are no preservatives, so Freakin Fresh is just as freakin’ fresh as it can be. Find it locally at Zingo’s, ShopRite, Janssen’s, Newark Natural Foods, Whole Foods and other markets.
