From the Suit to the Street: Local Guys Style Up for Spring

Three gentlemen share their secrets, from where they like to shop to what they most look forward to buying this season. Style isn’t always simple, but these guys make it look effortless.

DT: How would you describe your style?
BS: Preppy-casual.

DT: Where do you like to shop?
BS: I like to shop at Carltons in Rehoboth Beach.

DT: What is something you splurge on?
BS: Definitely watches and shoes. I enjoy several varieties of watches, including the classic styles from Rolex to the more casual styles from surf brands like Rip Curl. I really enjoy Cole Haan shoes.

DT: What are you looking forward to buying in the spring?
BS: I can’t wait to buy new polo shirts and shorts. Spring always comes with bright colors and patterns.

DT: What will you wear if you want to make an impression?
BS: A classic oxford and dress trousers always make a good impression.

DT: Have you ever made any fashion faux pas?
BS: Yes, anytime I wore cargo pants as an adult.

DM: Comfortable, upscale casual—except when I have to dress in a suit for work.

DM: I shop at Wilmington Country Store, Nordstrom and Wright & Simon in downtown Wilmington.

DT: What is something you splurge on?
DM: Italian shoes. They are made well, they look great and they last a long time. The best selection is at Nordstrom and at the King of Prussia location. I probably own over 20 pairs of shoes.

DT: What are you looking forward to buying in the spring?
DM: I am looking forward to buying some nice polo shirts.

DT: What will you wear if you want to make an impression?
DM: A nice sport jacket and a nice button down shirt.

DT: What is something that pulls an outfit together?
DM: Always a great pair of shoes.

DT: Have you ever made any fashion faux pas?
DM: Yes. I have worn brown shoes with a blue suit. I don’t care for that look. I understand that is the trend, but I don’t like that. And I don’t think brown suits should ever be worn.
