Giuseppe “Juice” Karpontinis is 13 years old, but he looks like he could play offensive line for a college football team. And he can definitely beat you in arm wrestling.
The Townsend youth recently lifted 1,078 pounds combined in squat, bench, and deadlift at the United States Powerlifting Coalition’s national competition in Indiana, setting records in his weight class. He’s been powerlifting for less than a year.
At age 12, Giuseppe lifted a combined 1,000.9 pounds—more than some grand pianos—at a Virginia event. That was the most weight for any 12-year-old in the world in 2024, according to OpenPowerlifting records.
“I just like to pick things up and put them down,” says Giuseppe, humble and nonchalant about his accomplishments. He’s training with Barbell Brothers Gym in Middletown and hopes to eventually compete internationally—maybe even at the Olympics.
