For most of us, Memorial Day tends to symbolize the beginning of summer. But the holiday’s true purpose is to respectfully remember those who have lost their lives while serving in our country’s armed forces.
In an effort to raise awareness and donations for veterans struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), the Mental Health Association in Delaware (MHA) has organized a Meditate For a Vet event for Saturday, May 19, at Wilmington’s Rockford Park.
Attendees will receive a free yoga mat to use during a guided meditation with a certified instructor. They will also hear directly from a veteran whose PTSD was reduced by meditation.
James Boston, an MHA board member, says up to 30 percent of veterans suffer from PTSD.
All proceeds and tax-deductible registration fees from this event will go directly toward funding programs related to addressing veterans’ PTSD and mental health.
Registration details and additional information can be found at mhainde.org/vetitation.
