The Great Delaware Exercise Class Chart

Find an exercise program that’s right for you

With so many proprietary workouts and classic exercise regimens out there, it can be difficult to choose the one that’s right for you. In her 36 years of teaching fitness classes in Delaware, Susan Storm, group fitness manager at Hockessin Athletic Club, has seen it all, so few are more qualified to evaluate them.

Storm, with Suzette Chambers-Marrin and Michele Miska, group fitness directors for YMCA of Delaware, rates some of the most popular programs available at local fitness centers on a scale of one to five (from least effective to most effective), according to their benefit to each of the five pillars of fitness: cardio-respiratory endurance, muscle strength, muscle endurance, flexibility and body composition (muscle-to-fat ratio). No single workout is the key, Storm says. You may benefit most from varying programs. But whether you want to tone up for swimsuit season, shave a few minutes off your average 5K time or prepare for Bike to the Bay, there’s a program that’s right for you.
