Most parents lavish affection on their children, but they also create
security and impart wisdom. Children who are prepared can manage life’s peaks and valleys. They know their parents guide them as best they can. And so, on a beautiful evening, my husband and I went on a nature walk with our son. (He has long, curly hair and the occasional ponytail.) This wasn’t a place far away—just a lake in our subdivision in Bear. But our son learns here. He navigates the lake, geese and nature’s other neighbors. It’s here that his father will never let him fall.
