Milk & Honey Cafe and Gallery opened in November in Wilmington’s Little Italy neighborhood. Located at 807 N. Union St., the cafe, art gallery and event venue offers customers a space to gather, work and grab a cup of coffee while they’re at it.

Owned and operated by Quincy Watkins, the cafe came to mind when the Bear resident wanted to offer the city a gathering place with great coffee, pastries and sandwiches.

“I wanted to focus on people,” Watkins said.

Watkins wears many hats as he’s as a pastor with The Neighborhood Church based out of Philadelphia. The church has expanded to Wilmington and all profits from the cafe go towards its community outreach projects, according to its Facebook page.

The desire to make Milk & Honey a community space fulfills this part of Watkins’ worth. But, the pastor also considers himself a coffee connoisseur and is a self-taught barista. He wanted the space to also be a cafe so people could enjoy single origin coffee and organic teas.

The coffee is sourced locally from Brandywine Coffee Roasters in Wilmington.

Along with espresso, coffee and tea, Milk & Honey’s menu includes smoothies, and juice. Customers can also order breakfast items like egg and cheese sandwiches, croissants and pastries. Or a variety of sandwiches for lunch.

Everything is affordably priced as Watkins wants great coffee to be accessible to everyone.

“I want people to have premium, exceptional coffee at an affordable price,” he said.

Along with coffee, Watkins displays the work of Wilmington artists on the walls. Everything but the pieces from his personal collection are for sale. Milk & Honey is also a part of the city’s monthly Art Loop.

Watkins said most of the artists featured came to him, looking for a new place to display their work.

“It was demonstrating for me there was a great need,” he said.

Watkins plans to expand the community outreach of Milk & Honey with board game nights, karaoke and the ability to rent the space to groups.

After only six weeks open, he said the cafe has seen positive response and with the business and restaurant renaissance that’s happening in Wilmington, he’s excited to see Milk & Honey continue to grow.

“Things are really happening,” he said.
