Sandy Delaware ornaments, available at Sand N Stones on Front Street in downtown Lewes, are made with sand scooped from the Delaware Bay beaches. The collection includes an ornament shaped like Delaware and one that resembles a horseshoe crab. They’re priced at $12.95 each, but on Dec. 7, shop owner Michele Buckler is offering 20 percent off the ornaments. While you’re there, check out Buckler’s handmade jewelry, which features locally found sea glass and stones.
The Lewes Historical Society Museum Gift Shop, now located in the old Zwaaendael Club on Savannah Road, has a collection of books about the coast for adults and kids. You’ll also find vintage-inspired clothing, artwork and items made by local artisans. Visit the online store for ideas before you go.

Speaking of books, Susan Kehoe, the general manager of Browseabout Books in Rehoboth Beach, says Joe Biden’s “Promise Me, Dad” is “flying out of the store.”
You’ll also find the Rehoboth Beach Reads Series by a local publisher, Cat & Mouse Press, which is owned by Nancy Sakaduski of Lewes and Chadds Ford. The fifth and most recent addition, “Beach Life,” features 25 stories set in Rehoboth and surrounding areas. “It’s fun, nice and light,” Kehoe says of the series. The book is $15.95.
It’s hard to toss some mistletoe without hitting a Blooming Boutique shop; there are locations in Milford, Lewes and Rehoboth. Owner Michiko Seto says Simply Southern’s beach-themed clothing in bright colors is a hot item this holiday season. You’ll also find locally inspired beads, such as Fenwick and Lewes lighthouses. Add a Corkcicle tumbler in a pretty aqua color that keeps beverages cold even in the sun.
Seto also owns Lewes Gifts and Treasures in Lewes, and the recently opened Treasures in Long Neck. All have nutcrackers with a coastal theme. You might find a fisherman, for instance, and Santa carries a bag of shells. “They’ve been very popular,” says Seto, who’s had to reorder them several times. For the ladies on the list, consider coastal jewelry with the name of your favorite beach on it.
