There are plenty of ways to spoil your sweetheart on Feb. 14. With just a bit a creativity, that special someone will be smiling ear-to-ear rather than sighing at the sight of another heart-shaped box of chocolates.

Photos and hair by Michael Hemphill; makeup by Kristina Ruggerio |
Everyone enjoys being pampered, so why not treat someone to a haircut, makeup and photography session at Michael Christopher Salon in Wilmington? Prices vary depending on the hairstyle (a blow-dry is $40, but adding a cut and color treatment will bump up the cost); makeup by Kristina Ruggerio is $65. Stylist and photographer Michael Hemphill of Michael Christopher says the salon has been offering this service for about two years and that it is very popular. “I once photographed a mother and her three daughters, and she gave the photograph to her husband for Valentine’s Day,” he says. The photography session is complimentary, and Hemphill suggests that clients bring a few different shirts for the photo shoot since the pictures are usually shot from the waist up. Hemphill can do the photo shoot in the salon or outside, depending on the weather. And perhaps the best part? The photos are emailed to you by the next day. He also recommends buying the package as a Valentine’s Day gift so that your special someone can make the appointment whenever it suits his or her schedule. “It has become a very successful package for people in real estate, for social media and for business cards,” says Hemphill.
