Jen Mason filled a niche in 2011 when she opened Biblion in Lewes. The downtown area lacked a bookshop, and Mason decided to sell used books and fun literary-themed gifts.
She’s since seized another opportunity with The Vintage Underground, a new boutique located in the basement beneath her bookstore. (The entrance is just around the corner from Biblion.)

The shop is a particular haven for music enthusiasts, offering vinyl records, used CDs and cassettes, and music accessories. “I’d been wanting to open a music space for a long time but hadn’t found the right space,” Mason says. That changed when Beach Jetty moved out of Biblion’s underground location in 2016.
Mason hopes her music merchandise—and the live acoustic performances she plans to host—will make The Vintage Underground a staple on the local music scene.

The shop also sells art, vintage clothing and funky home decor. Don’t expect a haphazard assortment of thrift-store finds: Mason vets all the merchandise herself. (It’s not unlike her approach at Biblion, where the books—both old and new—are in excellent condition.)
