From the Editor: We Hope You Are Well
“I hope you are well.”
I’ve been getting a lot of emails—more so than normal—in which this line seems to be weighted with even more significance than ever.
We at Delaware Today share this sentiment, even in the face of these extraordinary circumstances. But we understand that “well” has become relative with the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Like you, we’ve followed the expansion of epidemic into pandemic and watched the case number in our state go from single digits to triple digits. We’re working from home as many of you are, our children’s schools are closed and our lives have been equally blindsided by the loss of opportunities to go out to eat, see a show or just visit with friends and family.
But, we’re still on the job and thinking of our readers in all of your varying circumstances. We at Delaware Today can assure you that you can still turn to us during this anxious time. We hope you find our April issue, which is arriving in mailboxes now, a welcome distraction from the news of the day as it was sent to press prior to this extraordinary change in our daily lives.
But amid this growing crisis, I can’t stress how proud I am of the work our team has done to cover it from a variety of angles. Those include stories on what events are cancelled or rescheduled, a regularly updated list of where you can still get take-out or delivery meals, tips on how to handle the stress of isolation and stories of innovation and community support, like how state distilleries have pivoted to manufacture home-brew hand sanitizer.
This crisis will change us as Delawareans, Americans and global citizens. What won’t change is that this team of writers, editors and designers will be here to report on how that happens throughout our state. Delaware Today is in this with you and to be a resource where you can turn for something that’s informative, helpful or heartwarming.
And most importantly, in spite of everything that might make you think otherwise, we hope you are well.
